The SCA schools use GM Bram Frank’s Gunting knife.. but what or who is a Gunting?

It's both the name of a Spyderco/Cherusker Messer knife and a manoeuvre used in Filipino Martial Arts, the FMA gunting motion is a scissor technique, bringing both attacking limbs into play to deliver devastating strikes.

The Gunting knife comes in three flavours 'live', 'drone' and CRIMPT all designed by the founder of Common Sense Self Defence/Street Combat - Grandmaster Bram Frank. The Gunting family of knives enables the user to disable an opponent by striking/controlling limbs while targeting various non-lethal pressure points on their body. The first thing you will notice is the 'ramp' on the blade. The ingeniousness of the blade shape is apparent in two ways: the ramp allows for kinetic opening of the blade by leveraging it against an object or opponent. In the closed position the ramp or other parts of the Gunting can be applied to various pressure points on an attackers body for non-lethal control. The front of the handle and back of the clip feature divots/indentations for indexing for controlled rotation of the knife during martial arts applications.
